The comments made by the former Vice-President, Hamid Ansari, about historical figures, Mahmoud of Ghazni, and the Lodi dynasty have sparked off a political debate in which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the so-called Congress ecosystem of glorifying individuals that it argues served against the Hindu interests.

The row arose when the BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla posted a clip of an interview with Hamid Ansari, where he could hear him say that in his books he writes about Lodi and Ghazni and that they were all Indian looters, and they did not come as aliens. The remarks were promptly criticized by the BJP who accused such statements to be symptomatic of an ideological position held by the Congress and its followers.

In response, Poonawala had a heated response to this by claiming that the comments by Ansari was not a single case, but that it was part of a larger trend of him praising Hindu haters. He alleged that the Congress ecosystem was protecting or washing down historical personalities who in his view perpetuated atrocities on Hindus. In one post on X, Poonawala mentioned the case of the Somnath temple being invaded by Mahmud of Ghazni in 1026 and stated that the Congress and its supporters are minimizing the fact and fighting moves such as the Somnath Swabhiman Parv.

The BJP spokesperson even mentioned former student leaders Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam stating that the congress was in support of people with separatist motives. Building on the attack, Poonawala attacked Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his alleged absence at the Beating Retreat ceremony that was held on Thursday.

Poonawala stated that Gandhi was a leader with misplaced priorities claiming that parivar tantra was of more importance to him than samvidhan tantra. He also claimed that the disrespect to the army was embedded in the political strategy of the congress leader.
