New Delhi: The SC hearing the committee’s petitions in the Kashi Vishwanath temple-Gyanvapi Masjid case granted permission to worship the ‘Shivling’ in the ablution area of Gyanvapi mosque. The plea has stated that it would like to offer prayers near the Shivling in the month of Shravan.

A bench of Chief Justice NV Ramana, Justice Krishna Murari and Justice Hima Kohli after hearing the arguments of advocate Vishnu Shankar issued the order.

A plea was filed by a group of seven devotees for an urgent hearing. The plea read- We have asked for a scientific survey of the matter by the ASI and have said that once the survey is done we should get the right to worship at the Shivling. They further urged for live streaming of the event so that devotees could perform virtual darshan.

The pleas sought the court’s orders to give possession of a structure’, purportedly a Shivling, found on the mosque premises to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple trust and to allow worship and rituals to be conducted there. The Masjid committee has, however, remained firm on its stand that the structure is nothing but a fountain.
