An 18-year-old girl successfully got out of a deep borewell in the Kutch district of Gujarat after 33 hours of operation by several agencies. The incident occurred on Monday around 6:30 a.m. a teenager from the Kanderai village of Bhuj taluka fell accidentally into 540 feet-deep borewell. She was found trapped at a depth of 490 feet, and it was very difficult to rescue her as the borewell in which they were stuck had a diameter of just one foot, they said.

A rescue operation was carried out with the help of NDRF, BSF, the Bhuj fire department, local emergency response teams, police, and local authorities. However, the rescue operation was not easy owing to the depth of the borewell and the restricted area in the borewell. At first, officials dismissed the family story of an 18-year-old daughter who had accidentally fallen into the borewell. Nevertheless, her presence was ascertained by a camera on Monday afternoon.

Nevertheless, her parents were, from all ends, able to bring her out on Tuesday. In the recent update by NDRF, they said that the victim had reached 490 feet. Having tried several times to rescue her, she has been saved. The victim is unconscious and has been moved to the ambulance for other treatment, as seen in the video. She was quickly taken to the nearest hospital for medical treatment to be given.

The teenager is from a family of migrant labourers with roots in Rajasthan. It has brought into focus the risks associated with open borewells that are potentially fatal and more disastrous in rural areas and, therefore, the need to enhance safety measures. The brave hearts heaped commendation on the rescue teams, but it didn’t rest until the girl was rescued. It is assumed that local bodies are supposed to carry out an inquiry regarding the situation that led to it and demarcate measures to eradicate further such mishaps.
