Gujarat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday called the Chief Minister of Gujarat to introspect the prevailing situation in the state due to heavy rainfall in the past few days. The state witnessed 18 inches of rainfall in just 4 hours of which Ahmedabad alone received more than 115 mm of rainfall on Sunday in just three hours. CM Bhupendra Patel on his Twitter handle on Monday stated that the Prime Minister called him to check the present situation and assured every possible assistance to the state.
Due to continuous rains, the ground floors of buildings have been completely flooded with water, forcing residents to vacate the place as a measure of their safety. A number of villages in the state have been cut off due to flood-like situations and the officials are now using helicopters to reach out to the affected people. As per the latest reports, 61 people have lost their lives so far and around 2000 people have been evacuated by the NDRF and State officials’ teams.
CM Gujarat on Sunday held a meeting with District Collectors from the State Emergency Operations Centre to review the measure taken to deal with the situation arising due to heavy rains in Gujarat mainly South.
