NEW DELHI: With the air quality deteriorating in the national capital ahead of the New year, the commission for Air Quality Management in the National Capital Region and Adjoining areas has announced the implementation of GRAP III in Delhi-NCR. Under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) ban will be imposed on nonessential construction and demolition activities.

Delhi AQI over the past 24 hours stood at 399, just two points above the severe category. At a meeting on Friday, the sub-committee noted that the AQI is likely to slip into the severe category due to the calm winds and stable atmosphere.

Apart from the above-said curbs- the frequency of mechanized or vacuum-based sweeping of roads will be increased.

Water sprinkling on the roads prior to peak traffic hours.

All brick kilns, stone crushers, mining, and associated activities will also be shut down.

While under Stage III of GRAP- a ban on BS III petrol and BS IV diesel vehicles is also expected, Delhi’s transport department officials have said they shall look into it if necessitated.
