Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday took a constituent swipe on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on his commentary on the India-US trade deal saying that he was propagating what he termed as stage-managed, artificial and baseless claims.
Goyal posted on the social media site X, describing the claims by Gandhi as fake and fabricated, and that they were meant to mislead farmers and cause unnecessary confusion over the arrangement. He stated that some people were posing as the representatives of farmers in debates when they were really congress activists who were engaging in a rehearsed encounter.
Rahul Gandhi has again launched a stage-managed and artificial story. The allegations are false and they seem to have a scripted agenda, said Goyal who added that the allegations made were not factual.
The minister also added that Indian farmers have had their interests well maintained in the India US trade agreement. He stressed that the government is still determined to safeguard the livelihood of annadatas and enhance the agricultural sector.
Goyal also came to the defense of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi by saying that the government has had schemes designed to assist farmers and enhance self-reliance as part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. He insisted that farmers welfare will still be at the forefront of the administration as it works towards the trade agreements that provide benefits to the overall economic growth of the country.
Rahul Gandhi had previously spoken out against the India-US trade involvement expressing the issue of its effectuality. The trade is the most recent political crossfire between the ruling regime and the opposition on the economy and global trade.
