On Wednesday, the Centre advised consumers against panicking to book LPG cylinders in the face of the potential supply disturbances associated with tensions that were underway in West Asia. The government assured the people that there is ample supply of fuel in the country and that there is no shortage of cooking gas at present.
In a press conference, the representatives of the government claimed that the energy supply chain of India is not jeopardized by the war between the United States, Israel and Iran. The governments stressed that the liquid petroleum gas (LPG) stocks held by the oil marketing companies were enough and the consumers were not to make unnecessary bookings that would put artificial pressures on the demand.
It was also reported by a senior official that India is presently enjoying access to approximately 55 lakh barrels of crude oil per day. The government states that the quantity of crude the government obtains by other supply channels is higher than what would otherwise have been supplied by the Strait of Hormuz at the same time. This has served to save stability on the supply of energy in the country amidst the uncertainties in the world.
The government and domestic oil companies have also been proactive in diversifying their imports according to the officials. The steps are aimed at making sure that supplies of crude oil and LPG are not interfered in spite of the fact that geopolitical tensions may influence the classical shipping ways.
Nevertheless, effects of fluctuation in the world market have already started to be felt in the domestic fuel prices. In the near past, LPGs were raised by 60R in multiple cities. In Delhi, the domestic LPG cylinder of 14.2 kg is priced at approximately 913 or so whereas the commercial cylinder of 19 kg is priced at approximately 1883 or so after a great rise in the price.
The government repeated that the supply is still adequate and citizens should have no reason to panic but keep a close watch on the situation because the government is closely observing the situation.
