The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation has now stated that in the next two months, this has had meetings with the aviation sector’s major stakeholders, including domestic as well as foreign airlines, airport management systems, and other regulatory bodies, to avoid fog-related disruptions. These discussions were also held with the intention of organizing efficient operations for the passengers where there are times of high traffic, like during foggy conditions.

Disclosing the details of the consultation in a statement, the Ministry stated that consultations included the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), Airports Authority of India (AAI), the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). These talks were aimed at coordinating the actions of participants in the aviation industry to introduce measures facilitating efficient operation during the fog period and, consequently, improve the reliability of the flight and the quality of passengers’ stay.

The Ministry pointed out that these measures correspond with the vision of the Minister for Civil Aviation of the country, K. Rammohan Naidu, who has recently adopted the concept of “Ease of Flying.” While the purpose of this endeavour is to enhance the passenger experience, it also seeks to enhance communication and reduce inconvenience when fogs disrupt travel or impede operations in general.

As for the measures aimed at the prevention of delays or cancellations, the Ministry has ordered airlines to report on the corresponding changes to the passengers beforehand. Further, both airlines and online ticketing agents (OTAs) are now obliged to collect correct contact details from a passenger whenever he is making a booking. It will assist in enhancing communication and updating the travellers on any changes to their flight schedules.

Further, to avoid inconveniences, airlines said check-in counters would be fully manned, especially during rush hour. All the stakeholders have been notified to stay in compliance with the DGCA rules and regulations for registering delays and cancellations.
