The Indian Army was given the rare privilege by the Head Granthi of the Golden Temple to use air defense systems inside the temple to ward off attacks by drones and missiles from Pakistan. Lieutenant General Sumer Ivan D’Cunha, Director General of Army Air Defence, stated this development during an interview with the news agency.
The determination was made after several drone and projectile strikes by Pakistan on Amritsar, which India believes were retaliatory to its Operation Sindoor. After terrorist attacks happened in Pahalgam on April 22, India launched the operation.
:We appreciated that the Head Granthi gave us the opportunity to use our guns. This year, a chance to turn off the Golden Temple lights was seized, allowing us to see the drones much better.” He stated that, after he made them aware of the danger, the temple administration moved swiftly to defend what he referred to as “a famous war monument appreciated by everyone around the world.”
Prior to this, Major General Kartik C Seshadri, General Officer Commanding of the 15th Infantry Division, stated that all incoming drones and missiles were stopped by the Army’s Air Defence gunners. He mentioned that the Army was aware Pakistan might choose to attack civilian and religious locations as they lack military importance.
The new military tension started after India carried out air strikes in Pakistan and the Pakistan-occupied part of Kashmir. As a result, Pakistan launched more than 1,000 drones at India, but all were defeated, and its military infrastructure suffered serious damage due to Indian retaliation.
