New Delhi: Union Minister Anurag Thakur confirmed on Wednesday that the government has raised subsidy amount for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries from Rs. 200 to Rs. 300 per LPG cylinder. The reduced price of LPG cylinders was confirmed during a briefing on Cabinet decisions.

On May 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojna (PMUY) as a flagship scheme with the objective of making clean cooking fuel such as LPG available to make clean cooking fuel such as LPG available to rural and deprived households. Currently, the Ujjwala beneficiaries are paying Rs. 703 per 1.2 kg cylinder as against the market price of Rs. 903.

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) is a government scheme that aims to provide free LPG connections to women from Below Poverty Line (BPL) households. The scheme was launched in 2016 and has so far provided over 80 million LPG connections.

The PMUY scheme has had a number of positive impacts on the lives of beneficiaries. It has helped to reduce indoor air pollution, improve health outcomes, and empower women.
