Imphal: The Indian government has asked Twitter and other social media platforms to pull down the video of the two Manipur women parading naked as the matter is under investigation. The govermnet belives to have communicated to the social media platforms operating in India that they must abide by the Indian laws.
Ever since the video from the BJP-ruled Manipur went viral shaking the collective consciousness of the nation, it drew wide condemnation across political parties. Union minister Smriti Irani said she had spoken to chief minister N Biren after seeing the inhumane shocking video. Further, congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka GANDHI Vadra, Jairam Ramesh, strongly condemned the video seeking PM Modi’s statement on Manipur which has been violence-struck since May 3.
“Asking social media to follow Indian laws while allowing the CM to continue getting away from doing so shows the level of desperation and inability of the government to contain violence or fake news”, wrote MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Twitter.
Parliament’s monsoon session that began today amid political heat over next year’s general election was outraged over the situation in Manipur. The Opposition today demanded a statement from prime minister Narendra Modi on Manipur, warning of chaos in its absence.
