In the wake of the terrible Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, India is trying to come to terms with this disaster, when various countries have stepped forward to offer their condolences and to be with the victims and their bereaved families. Global leaders have expressed emotional sentiments over the crash of Air India flight AI171 that was carrying 242 passengers from Ahmedabad to London.
The German Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, has shown great concern over the tragedy. On X (formerly Twitter), he posted, “We are following the shocking images of an Air India flight crashing after departure in Ahmedabad. As we are only learning the details, my thoughts and heartfelt prayers are with our friends in #India and everyone currently hoping for their loved ones.” German Ambassador to India, Philipp Ackermann, echoed and reshared his message.
China also extended its condolences. The Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, expressed his sadness at the tragic incident and sympathised with the families of the affected. In his statement, he indicated that China stood with India in this hour of need and prayed for the victims.
France also added its grief over the accident. Thierry Mathou, the French Ambassador to India, wrote on X: “France is deeply saddened by reports of a plane crash in #Ahmedabad. Our thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones. We express our full solidarity at this difficult time.”
Russia, too, expressed its regrets, but an official statement is expected.
Such assistance from the world powers indicates the power of international support during a tragedy. The rescue efforts are still ongoing at the crash site in Meghaninagar locality of Ahmedabad, and the authorities are doing everything they can to help the victims of the tragic crash and identify the causes of the crash.
