Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai will continue as the DGMO as he steps into the post of Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy). The promotion is a reflection of his achievements as a leader in a key national security operation, and it shows the army’s desire to create a unified approach to strategic planning and using information in warfare.
While leading the Indian Army in the risky mission of Operation Sindoor after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir left 26 people dead, Ghai became the center of attention. Under this move, Indian soldiers carried out effective and wide strikes in Pakistan and PoK, destroying more than a hundred terrorist camps and damaging 13 key airbases.
Everyone acknowledged that the operation was successful on a large scale. As a result, Ghai, along with his fellow officers from the Indian Air Force and Navy, gave clear updates to the media on May 11 and 12. Modi pointed out that India was acting with caution and emphasis, making it clear that a threat to the nation would lead to decisive and strong actions by the country.
He will now lead different key areas such as intelligence, operations, planning, and information warfare. Such an approach is common in today’s warfare, as operations now involve cyber, spy, and mental aspects in close coordination.
Lately, President Droupadi Murmu honored his military contributions by granting him the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal for his services as the commander of the 15 Corps in Srinagar. This step strengthens the military’s trust in his leadership and shows that having effective, future-ready commanders is important in India.
