New Delhi: During the G20 Summit, there will be travel restrictions in Delhi in the well-known Lutyens’ Zone or New Delhi district. According to an announcement by the Delhi Police on Friday, only residents and essential service providers will be allowed access to this area if they can show identification.
These restrictions will be in place from September 8 to 10, with increased security on the two days. This is because leaders and ministers from G20 nations are expected to arrive. This summit is considered the international gathering in Delhi since the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Notable participants include US President Joe Biden, Chinese Premier Xi Jinping, French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Alongside these leaders, thousands of others are expected to attend, including delegates, government officials, and other dignitaries.
To ensure management, the Delhi Police has divided areas into controlled and regulated zones. The New Delhi district is categorized as Controlled Zone 1 while key areas such as Vikas Marg leading to ITO (Income Tax Office) regions around Red Fort and those near railway stations of the city are labeled as Controlled Zone 2.
Surender Singh Yadav, who serves as the commissioner of police (traffic), emphasized that areas within the Ring Road fall under the Regulated Zone. He mentioned that they would establish a support center on the Delhi Police website to assist the public in navigating through transportation and healthcare services.
