New Delhi: Petrol and diesel prices saw another revision today morning after the oil marketing companies issued a fresh notification adding 80 paise per litre for each- for the 14th time in 16 days. The hike took the total increase in rates by around ₹9.75-10.25 per litre each for petrol and diesel, respectively since the rate revision began last month.
Petrol following this hike is retailed at Rs 105.41 in the national capital, while the revised rates in the financial capital took petrol to Rs 120.51 per litre. The High-speed diesel was sold at Rs 96.67 in the capital.
The Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Harshdeep Singh Puri on Tuesday defended the fuel price hike laying a comparison with other countries, saying that India has merely seen a change of only 5 per cent.
Fuel prices hiked in India are 1/10th of the change of prices in other countries. Comparing gasoline (petrol) prices between April 2021 and March 2022, the prices in the United States of America (USA) have increased by 51 per cent, Canada by 52 per cent, Germany by 55 per cent, the United Kingdom (UK) by 55 per cent, France by 50 per cent, Spain 58 per cent but in India only 5 per cent,” Mr Puri in Lok Sabha.
