Ukhrul: Early in the morning on Friday a concerning incident took place in Ukhrul district, Manipur. According to authorities, unidentified armed individuals targeted and fatally attacked three members of the Kuki community.
The unsettling event occurred at around 4;30 am in Thouwai Kuki village. This village is predominantly inhabited by the Kuki tribe. Is located about 47km away from Ukhrul, the town of the district. It’s worth mentioning that Ukhrul has a population of Tangkhuls, which’s a subgroup of the Naga tribe.
Initial reports from the police suggest that a group of individuals came down from the hills on the side of the village. Upon their arrival, they opened fire on the guards stationed there resulting in the loss of three residents. As per N Vashum, Superintendent of Police (SP) for Ukhrul there are currently no records indicating injuries stemming from this incident.
In response to this act of violence local law enforcement agencies have swiftly enhanced security measures in the region. The SP emphasized how crucial it is to address this situation and announced efforts between state police and Indian Army forces. These joint operations aim to locate and apprehend those for these killings.
These incidents did not show how delicate peace is in areas of the country but they also emphasize the importance of having open conversations and better understanding within communities. As investigations move forward, both locals and authorities are eagerly waiting for answers.
