A French carrier strike group with the flagship French Navy aircraft NFR Charles De Gaulle is expected to join the biennial Varuna naval exercise with the Indian naval force in the Indian Ocean region. The said partnership should result in the improvement of maritime security within the area and improve naval cooperation between the two forces.
The carrier strike group is at present in the Indian Ocean as part of the French Navy’s Mission Clemenceau 25 to protect French interest in the Indo-Pacific and contribute to the European efforts in the region. The mission focuses on preparing the French forces alongside France’s regional partners and allies, such as India, according to the French Embassy on Friday.
In this regard, the French carrier strike group will participate in the 42nd edition of the Varuna bilateral naval exercise with India. The two navies conduct this annual aero-naval training as a means of familiarization to enhance the interoperability of the crews of the two navies to respond to Multi-Dimensional threats from the air, surface, and underwater. Both as resident powers in the region contribute periodically to maintaining the security of the waters of the Indian Ocean, the statement said.
The formation of this force consists of a large variety of aircraft in its ability and several escort ships like frigates and supply ships, thus evidencing France’s utter Might in Naval forces. The 42,500-tonne FNS Charles De Gaulle, with sophisticated aircraft and helicopters as well as Rafale M combat jets in terms of aircraft, makes this strike group powerful.
It is planning to make port calls at Goa and Kochi on or from January 04. These stopovers will enable the exchange of support and cooperation in logistics, both cultural and professional, and will strengthen and enhance the naval relations between France and India. The Varuna exercise retains its importance, which has the cultural significance of enhancing the strategic bilateral cooperation of both countries in terms of promoting stability and security in the region.
