Former President Pranab Mukherjee passes away; condolence pour from all spectrum
New Delhi: Former President Bharat Ratna Pranab Mukherjee passed away on Monday. His death was announced by his son Abhijit Mukherjee. He was 84.
Mukherjee had, earlier this month, undergone brain surgery at the Army Research and Referral hospital in the national capital. Earlier today, hospital authorities said his condition deteriorated further and he was in a state of septic shock due to a lung infection.
After hearing his demise, condolences poured from all spectrum.
Sad to hear that former President Shri Pranab Mukherjee is no more. His demise is passing of an era. A colossus in public life, he served Mother India with the spirit of a sage. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: “India grieves the passing away of Bharat Ratna Pranab Mukherjee. He has left an indelible mark on the development trajectory of our nation. A scholar par excellence, a towering statesman, he was admired across the political spectrum & by all sections of society.”

Film personalities mourns former president Pranab Mukherjee’s death.
“A thorough gentleman” and “a great statesman” is how film personalities, including melody queen Lata Mangeshkar, actors Ajay Devgn and Taapsee Pannu remembered former president Pranab Mukherjee, who passed away in the evening at the age of 84.
Mourning the former president’s demise, Lata Mangeshkar said Mukherjee was a ‘thorough gentleman’.
“Our former president, a Bharat Ratna and a thorough gentleman… We shared a very warm and cordial relationship. Heartfelt condolences to the family,” she tweeted.
Actor Varun Dhawan shared a picture of Mukherjee and wrote that the year has been ‘extremely hard’ for everyone.
“We have lost a great leader today. Prayers and strength to the family,” the 33-year-old actor wrote.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Home Affairs annouced that there will be 7 day state mourning on demise of former president. During State mourning, national flag to fly at half-mast on buildings across India and there will be no official entertainment.
