New Delhi: The Supreme Court comments over the on-going Nupur Sharma controversial communal comments has raised brows. As many as 15 former High Court (HC) judges, 77 bureaucrats and 25 Army Veterans have signed an open letter to the Chief Justice of India. The top court last week declined Nupur’s plea to club the hate speech cases filed against her across the country.
The signatories include former Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Kshitij Vyas, former Gujarat High Court Judge S M Soni, former Rajasthan High Court Judges R S Rathore and Prashant Agarwal and former Delhi High Court Judge S N Dhingra. Earlier while hearing the plea Justice Kant said, ‘The way she has ignited emotions across the country… this lady is single handedly responsible for what is happening in the country’. The open letter on the contrary said that ‘the emotions have flared up extensively on account of these observations that in a sense dilute the barbaric dastardly beheading in broad day light in Udaipur’.
Meanwhile, A Kashmir based Forum for Human Rights and Social Justice has also criticized the apex court’s observation on this case.
