Thiruvananthapuram: Veteran Congress leader and former Kerela Chief Minister Oommen Chandy passed away today morning at 4:25 AM in Bengaluru at the age of 79. His mortal remains will be shifted from Chinmaya Mission Hospital in Bengaluru to Thiruvananthapuram through an air ambulance.
The public will be able to pay respects to the leader at Durbar Hall, St George Orthodox Cathedral and KPCC headquarters Indira Bhavan on Tuesday. The funeral procession will begin 7 AM on Wednesday.
Chhattisgarh’s chief minister Bhupesh Baghel tweeted, “The news of the demise of former Kerela chief minster OOmen Chandy is sad. He always dedicated himself to public service. Till the end, he was always available in the service of the public and the party”.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi condoled the demise of the veteran leader. Rahul is currently camping in Bengaluru for a meeting of the opposition parties, paid tributes to Chandy at former Karnataka minister T John’s residence. Taking to Twitter, Rahul shared a photo with Chandy clicked during Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Oommen Chandy was was unwell since 2019 and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bengaluru. He was taken to Germany for treatment in November after his Cancer aggravated. His wife Mariyamma, son and daughters were by his side at the time of his demise.
