New Delhi: India recorded 6,987 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 98.40 per cent accounted for 7,091 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,42,30,354. The daily positivity rate stood at 0.74% less than 2% for last 83 days.
The number of active cases stood at 76,766 accounting for 0.22 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline by 266 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.38 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 162 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,79,682.
Karnataka on Saturday added 6 Omicron cases to the already spiked tally. As per the current data withheld with the government, Maharashtra leads the states with 108 cases of the variant. Meanwhile the national capital records 79 followed by Gujarat. Amongst the southern states, Telangana leads the list with 41 cases. Neighbouring state Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka logged 34, 39,31 cases respectively.
India on Saturday announced “precaution doses” for health and frontline workers and those above 60 from January 10. The announcement came forth through PM Modi late night address. He also announced vaccinations for children between 15 and 18 years from January 3.”The government has decided that precaution doses of the Covid vaccine will be started for healthcare and frontline workers (FLW) from January 10, 2022,” the Prime Minister said in his address to nation on Christmas Day.
As per the statistics reported to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, so far 141.37 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country including 32.90 lakh doses given in the last 24 hours.
