New Delhi: Rains continue to lash most of North India with several roads blocked and landslides triggered in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The Ganga crossed the danger mark in Uttarakhand’s Devprayad and breached the warning level in Haridwar due to the heavy release of water from a dam on the river Alaknanda. The Indian Meteorological Department issued heavy to very heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh during next five days.
The flood furry continues to haunt in Delhi as well. A slight increase was reported in the water level of Yamuna river again today morning. At 8AM, the water level was recorded at 205.5m down over 3m from its peak of 208.66m on July 13. While government and government-aided schools in six of 13 education districts continue to remain close for another two days, the capital is still facing a scarcity of drinking water. The poor living on the banks of the Yamuna has suffered a lot and therefore, Delhi CM Kejriwal announced a financial aid of Rs. 10000 for flood-hit families.
NDRF has been working tirelessly for speeding the rescue operations in the flood-hit capital. CM Kejriwal thanked NDRF, I&FC, PWD, DJB, navy, and all officers and engineers who worked to save Delhiites in his Tweet.
In an another tragic flood hit state, two girls drowned after they were caught in a flash flood in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district. Earlier on Saturday, the girls were returning from schools when they were swept away by a strong current while crossing the mountain stream.
