New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Friday successfully launched its maiden flight named- Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. The flight of the Autonomous Flying Wing Technology Demonstrator was carried out by Aeronautical Test Range in Karnataka.

The flight has been designed by Aeronautical Development Establishment and is being operated in fully autonomous mode. The take-off, waypoint navigation and smooth touchdown give this aerial vehicle an edge over others.

The official press release stated that this flight is powered by a small turbofan engine including an airframe, undercarriage and indigenously designed flight control and avionics system.

The Defence Minister of India congratulated the entire team and DRDO on this achievement through his Twitter handle. The Twitter handle further read that this is a big achievement for autonomous aircraft.

The automatic flight has been designed and developed in Bengaluru. DRDO Chief Dr G Satheesh Reddy applauded the efforts and commitment of the entire team engaged in the design, development and testing of this system. The DRDO also shared a video on its official Twitter handle where the take- off and landing of this automatic aerial vehicle was seen clearly.
