Hiroshima: Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the first statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Hiroshima Peace Park as he attended the G7 Summit on 20 May. He revealed that the unveiling of the statue will help them to promote the ideas of non-violence which need to reach different parts of the world.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that, “The bust of Mahatma Gandhi in Hiroshima will take forward the idea of non-violence. It is a great moment for me to know that the Bodhi tree that I gifted to the Japanese PM has been planted here in Hiroshima so that people can understand the importance of peace when they come here. I pay my respect to Mahatma Gandhi.”

When the Prime Minister arrived at the Japan airport, he received a warm welcome from the Japanese officials and citizens. The Indian community also welcomed him when he arrived at the hotel.

Expressing his love and gratitude, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted regarding the same, saying that he is obliged to have such a great welcome in Japan. He also thanked the Japanese Government for promoting the idea of non-violence.
