New Delhi: According to MEA, over 1,377 stranded Indians have been evacuated in 24 hours from the crisis-hit country, through its flights from Poland, Hungary, and Romania.
Taking to Twitter S. Jaishankar in the early hours of the day wrote- “Six flights have now departed for India in the last 24 hours, including the first flights from Poland. Carried back 1377 more Indian nationals from Ukraine.”
The Indian embassy in Poland issued an urgent advisory asking nationals to avoid congestion in the Shehyni-Medyka border and reach the Budomierz border for easy entry into Poland. Meanwhile, efforts by Aviation Minister Scindia opened Moldova borders for Indian students. Scindia who left for Bucharest on Tuesday to facilitate evacuation said- “Moldova’s borders have been opened for incoming Indian students. Proper shelter and food arrangements will be made. Talks are on to make arrangements for their journey to Bucharest for onward flight to India.”
After the second high-level meet, the IAF on orders by the PM engaged its aircraft in the evacuation program- Operation Ganga. Under the program, 26 flights are scheduled to fly in the next three days to lift stranded Indians who made it to the borders of Ukraine after it closed its airspace as Russia launched an invasion a week ago. As of now, a C-17 aircraft is en-route Romania carrying humanitarian aid to the war-torn nation. No Indian left in Kyiv confirmed foreign minister Harsh Vardhan Shringla on Tuesday.
