Almost 70 Indian nationals, students, and pilgrims trapped in war-torn Iran did return to India on Sunday, after a very strenuous evacuation process. The team reached the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi where people were so much relieved that the group had returned after the war was still in progress.

Among them was 22 year old Naina Toiba who is an MBBS student of Urmia University of Medical Sciences. Toiba, who was originally of Anantnag, told the same as she reported that she was relieved immensely when she got to the airport and got in touch with her family members to tell them that she was okay. She belonged to a group of mainly students and pilgrims of Jammu and Kashmir who were stuck in Iran since the tension between the two countries had heightened earlier this year.

The evacuation consisted of a complicated path which took almost four days. The group initially travelled by bus through different universities in Iran to Iran-Armenia border and then to Armenia. They took a flight to Dubai in the Armenian capital Yerevan and finally a connecting flight to Delhi. The path had to be used since the Iranian airspace has been closed since the conflict had broken out on February 28.

A number of students talked about days when they were too scared to come out with the bombardments and military activities stepping up around their homes. Toiba remembered that there was a bombing which happened nearly 200 metres near her apartment and broke the windows and she had to move to another apartment belonging to a friend to protect herself. Having little internet connectivity and little knowledge about what was happening outside, most students attempted to survive by concentrating on studies and reading books.
