For the first time, 17 women cadets graduated from the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune, together with 300 men, on Friday. For the first time, women cadets were part of the NDA’s passing out batch, which was celebrated at the Antim Pag event in Khadakwasla’s Khetrpal Parade Ground.
Commanding the Parade for the 148th Course at the Academy was Cadet Captain Udayveer Negi, while General VK Singh, former Army Chief and now Governor of Mizoram, reviewed the proceedings. He said the event marked a major move forward in empowering all people in India. The Prime Minister pointed out that “Nari Shakti” cadets show how women can influence not only their own lives but also the future of India.
At the ceremony, 339 graduates were awarded degrees in four programs given by the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi. Among the captured data were 84 Bachelor of Science (BSc) degrees, 85 majoring in Computer Science, 59 Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees, and 111 Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degrees.
In particular, Shriti Daksh was top of her class in the BA stream and offered plenty of inspiration. When she looked back on her journey, she said her three years of training were full of emotional ups and downs because at the start, she faced challenges but was encouraged by her mentors, who helped her transform. Like Daksh, Daksh’s father also finished the NDA and had served in the same squadron when he was in the Air Force.
Cadet Captain Prince Kushwaha, who ranked first in Computer Science, told the female cadets that they have paved the way for new developments.
Poonam Tondon, Vice Chancellor of Deen Dayal Upadhyay University, spoke directly to the graduates, telling them to lead courageously and honorably, promising they will make the country proud.
