New Delhi: As the healthcare infrastructure of the country is struggling to meet the demand for supply of oxygen due to the rising cases of Covid-19, the fertilizer companies stretched their hands to supply 50 tonne of medical oxygen on a daily basis. Minister of State of Chemicals and Fertilizers Mansukh Mandaviya discussed the possibility of increasing oxygen production. The initiative of the Ministry was welcomed by the fertilizer companies.

The ministry said in a statement, “Altogether it is expected that approximately 50 tonne of medical oxygen per day can be made available for Covid-19 patients by the fertilizer plants”. The Ministry further added that in its Kalol unit in Gujarat, IFFCO will put up an oxygen plant with capacity of 200 cubic meters per hour and it is estimated that the total capacity of the plant would be 33,000 cubic meters per day.

To enhance the oxygen production capacities, GSFS and GNFC have already started the process. The Ministry said, “GSFC made small modifications in their plants and started supplying liquid oxygen. GNFC has also started supplying liquid oxygen for medical purposes after starting the air separation unit”. Through CSR funding, some other fertilizer companies will set up medical plants at selected locations in the country.
