Imphal: Exodus follows a diktat by an organization of former extremists asking them to leave for their own safety, 56 Meiteis took a flight to Imphal and many left on buses. Meitei people living and working in Mizoram started exiting the northeastern State on Saturday.

The Peace Accord MNF Returnees Association (PAMRA) has issued a statement on Friday claiming Mizoram was no longer safe for the Meiteis in view of the mounting tension following the barbaric and heinous acts committed by miscreants in Manipur. Mizos and Kukis are ethnically related as are the Chins of Myanmar and the Chin-Kukis of Bangladesh.

A student group from Manipur University has urged authorities to transfer them to other central varsities due to the prevailing situation in the northeastern state. According to the Delhi Congress chief Anil Kumar, a group of 99 students who hail from Delhi and other parts of the country have expressed their concern and demanded their transfer to other central universities.

Amid the stalemate in Parliament’s monsoon session over holding a debate on Manipur violence, MPs of opposition parties have planned a protest on July 24 near Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in Parliament complex to press for the prime minister’s statement. Meanwhile, Union Minister of Earth Sciences, Kiren Rijiju said that the Centre will present facts on Manipur incident in Parliament as he declined to speak on the viral video that showed two women.
