New Delhi: Despite being denied permission to visit the bereaved farmer families in Lakhimpur Kheri, Former Congress President re-affirmed he would visit Lucknow along with three of his party members.

Addressing a press conference ahead of his visit, he slammed PM Modi’s visit to Lucknow on the occasion of Azadi@75 celebrations. He said, “ Yesterday, the Prime Minister visited Lucknow but he didn’t visit Lakhimpur Kheri. It’s a systematic attack on farmers.”

“There is dictatorship in India today. Rajneta Uttar Pradesh main nahi jaa sakte. Kal se hume kaha jaa rah hai ki hum nahi jaa sakte. Chhattisgarh ke CM ko nahi milne de rahe. Kyun? Kyunki bhayankar chori ho rahi hai. (Politicians cannot visit the state; we have been told since yesterday that we can’t go. The Chhattisgarh Chief Minister was not allowed to go. Why? Because there is a great loot going on),” alleged the Congress leader. He further claimed that the centre was systematically attacking the country farmers beginning with land acquisition followed by three farm laws,

Citing ‘an explosion’, Mr Gandhi stated that he is steadfast to visit the site to gain on ground details and try maintaining the democratic system. He claims that UP Govt is fuelling the agitation in the farmers, that would explode. Notably, the UP govt has imposed Section 144 in the state after the violence on Sunday killed eight people  including four farmers.
