New Delhi: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the rollback of the 3 farm laws on Friday, at least 32 farmers’ organisations from Punjab are set to meet on Saturday to take a call on their future course of action. The farmer unions, which have been sitting on a protest on different borders of Delhi since November last year, are likely to decide the future of their agitation and their stand on the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Meanwhile, the decision making body of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of 40 farmers’ unions that led the stir, is slated to meet on November 21st. Reportedly, the final call on the agitation and demands related to MSP will be discussed in this meeting. On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, PM Modi on Friday announced that the government has decided to repeal the three farm laws.
The government will formally repeal the three laws in the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament. “It was because of the immense support given to the ‘Kisan morcha’ from people across the world, the central government had to admit its mistake,” Rajewal added, who is also a member of the SKM, as saying. “’Der aaye durust aaye’ (better late than never),” said Rajewal.
