Farmer Protest: Farmers are again on agitation for the guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) of crops and solution of pending problems of farmers, among other demands. Farmer organizations had offered the central government to either accept the demands or hold talks. However, the Center did not send an invitation to the farmers for talks. Due to this, farmers will march to Delhi once again. Today (8 December), a group of 101 farmers will make another attempt to march to Delhi from Shambhu Border.
Punjab farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said that the farmers have not received any message from the central government to discuss their issues. Therefore, a group of 101 farmers will start a march towards Delhi on December 8. On Friday, the protesting farmers had postponed their march towards the national capital after some farmers were injured due to tear gas shells fired by security personnel on the Punjab-Haryana border.
He said the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have already decided that a batch of 101 farmers will again march towards the national capital in a peaceful manner on Sunday afternoon. The batch was stopped due to multi-layered barricading put up by Haryana security personnel. Ignoring the prohibitory orders, the farmers tried to cross the barricades but the security personnel stopped them and fired several tear gas shells to make them go back to their protest site in Shambhu in Punjab.
Meanwhile, Haryana Police said in a letter sent to the Punjab Police Chief, “It is brought to your notice that on December 6, when the group of farmers moved towards the border of Haryana, many media persons were also with them, whereas it was requested that media persons should not be allowed to come near the protest site. The letter said, “Due to this, Haryana Police had to face a lot of problems in handling the law and order situation on the border. Therefore, you are again requested to instruct all the concerned parties to ensure that in the interest of the safety and needs of the media persons, they should be stopped at a safe distance (minimum one kilometer).
