The much-anticipated exit poll results for the Assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir were declared on Saturday after 6 pm. The Congress is likely to make a strong comeback in Haryana after a decade in the recently held Assembly elections, according to Axis My India, which said that the party may win 59 seats in the state. Meanwhile, it gave an edge to its alliance with the National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir with the regional partner emerging as the single largest party with 40 out of 90 seats.
The exit polls have offered preliminary indications of the electoral trends in these two crucial regions, reflecting the preferences of voters. The final results of the Assembly elections in both states will be declared on October 8, but the exit polls today are likely to fuel political debates and discussions across the country.
The Congress-National Conference alliance will get more than 55 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls, Congress general secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir claimed as several exit polls gave an edge to the combine.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir have voted to change the last 10 years of BJP rule. Whatever the exit polls show, our belief is that the vote was for change, for keeping the BJP out in both regions (Kashmir and Jammu),” said Mr Mir.
The Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir were held in three phases i.e. on September 18, 25 and October 5. Jammu and Kashmir is all set to get a new government after the assembly elections for its 90 constituencies held over three phases – September 18, September 25 and October 1 – after a gap of 10 years.
Meanwhile, Haryana witnessed a single phase of voting on October 5. A total of 1,031 candidates are contesting in all 90 assembly constituencies, and 20,632 polling booths have been set up for voting. The results for the Haryana Assembly elections will be declared along with those of Jammu and Kashmir on October 8.
