New Delhi: The Yamuna river has overflowed in numerous places as a result of the northern states’ constant rainfall. Low-lying areas of Delhi have been submerged by water from the Yamuna’s flood.
Yamuna river overflow caused low-lying regions close to Mayur Vihar Phase I and Akshardham Temple to flood. A woman residing in that area said, “When the water started pouring in, I hurried to get my family and our goats out of there. Some of my possessions were left at home.”
Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, meanwhile urged people not to approach the river, stating that “the government is monitoring the situation and are ready to deal with any circumstance.”
Around 2,000 people have been relocated to safer sites in the northeast district, while about 5,000 residents in low-lying villages close to the river have been transferred to tents near Commonwealth Games Village, Hathi Ghat, and Link road. Government officials estimate that 37,000 residents of Delhi’s low-lying neighbourhoods and Yamuna floodplains are at risk of flood.
