Chandigarh: A delegation of senior Haryana Congress functionaries led by unit chief Udai Bhan planned to visit Nuh district today. As section 144 remains imposed in the violence-hit Nuh on Tuesday, Narendra Bijarnuya, Superintendent of Police (SP) of the district said that the Congress delegation has been denied permission to visit the area to meet the victims of the violence that erupted in the state on July 31.
Pointing to the reports that demolition orders and notices were not issued, the Division Bench of Justices G S Sandhawalia and Harpreet Kaur Jeewan said, “If any such demolition is to be carried out today, it should be stopped if the procedure is not followed as per the law”.
The court also asked if the properties of a particular community were being targeted under the guise of a law and order problem and an exercise of ethnic cleansing was being conducted. Further, the court asked the state government to file an affidavit on how many buildings have been demolished, and if any notice was issued before demolition.
The police has so far registered 56 cases in Nuh in connection with clashes. Until now, 116 suspects have been arrested and 103 have been sent to judicial custody while police secured the remand of 13 for further interrogation. So far, none of the accused has got bail. Six people including two home guards and a cleric were killed in July 31 violence.
