Mumbai: An empty rake of an Electrical Multiple Unit (EMU) derailed at Ambarnath railway station in Mumbai today morning at 8:25AM. Although no casualties have been reported by the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Central Railways said down traffic between Kalyan to Karjat will be affected.
The derailed rake was being shunted to the maintenance yard when it came off the tracks. The cause of the derailment is still under investigation. The Central Railway (CR) has set up a committee to investigate the derailment. The committee will submit its report within a week.
Further, the CR has also announced a compensation of ₹50,000 for each passenger who was injured in the derailment. The derailment is a reminder of the need for safety measures on the railways. The CR has been working to improve safety on its network, but more needs to be done.
The CR needs to invest in better infrastructure, such as more modern signaling systems and improved track maintenance. It also needs to train its staff better and create a culture of safety.
The derailment at Ambarnath is a wake-up call for the CR. It needs to take action to improve safety on its network and prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
The derailment caused empty local train rake to encroach onto Down main line, which hampers the train travel area. Work is being done to rerail the empty rake and get everything back to normal.
Sources reveal that the disruption in train services has impacted three specific trains; LTT- Vishakhapatnam express train has been detained at Ambarnath station’s home signal, while one down Badlapur local train has been detained at Ulhasnagar station.
