Rahul Gandhi Citizenship: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has sent a notice to the person who claims to be Rahul Gandhi’s British citizen. He has been asked to appear before the central investigation agency on September 9. ED sources said that Shishir has been asked to appear with all the evidence and documents related to the case under the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
BJP worker S. Vignesh Shishir has filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court claiming that Rahul Gandhi is a British citizen. The CBI is investigating on the basis of his complaint made in June 2024. He also claimed that he has appeared before the agency in Delhi several times and has also given evidence related to Rahul Gandhi’s alleged British citizenship.
Now the ED has summoned the petitioner S. Vignesh Shishir. He said that these allegations are being investigated. Under FEMA, the ED investigates complaints related to violation of foreign exchange laws by individuals and companies. When the Congress party was asked for a response on this matter, it refused to comment.
In a PIL filed in the Allahabad High Court, Shishir had claimed that he has some documents and emails of the British government, which prove that Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is a British citizen and is therefore ineligible to contest elections in India. On August 30, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court had ordered the central government to provide 24-hour security to Shishir. A division bench of Justice Sangeeta Chandra and Justice BR Singh passed this order on a writ petition filed by a BJP worker. In its interim order, the bench said that we are satisfied at first sight that this case is worth consideration because the petitioner has filed a case against a very influential person and is facing constant threats and in compliance with the notice, he has to appear before the investigating officer at the Kotwali police station in Rae Bareli district.
