New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate on June 13th in the National Herald case after requesting a fresh date. Sonia Gandhi was summoned before the ED on June 8th.
Rahul was scheduled to appear on Thursday, but he requested a postponement and now he will be called on June 13th since he will be out of the country until June 5th. The ED will record both statements under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The issue involves an equity transaction in which Sonia and her son Rahul are accused of “misappropriating” Associated Journals’ assets “worth over Rs 2,000 crore” for “only Rs 50 lakh.”
A private complaint filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy in 2013 led to an income tax investigation on the Congress lawmakers. Swamy said that the Gandhis ‘cheated’ and ‘misappropriated’ funds when they purchased National Herald.
