DRDO successfully tests Gaurav: India has achieved a major milestone towards becoming self-reliant in the military defence sector. This indigenous bomb has been named ‘Gaurav’, which is capable of destroying the target with precision from a distance. DRDO has successfully tested the ‘Gaurav’ long range glide bomb from the Su-30MKI fighter jet. This indigenous bomb weighing 1000 kg will carry out a precise attack from outside the enemy’s air defence range.

The Indian Air Force successfully tested an air-launched long-range glide bomb from a Su-30MKI fighter jet. This indigenous weapon, named “Gaurav,” is capable of destroying targets with pinpoint accuracy from a distance.

DRDO has developed this weapon in two variants. The first version, Gaurav-PCB, is designed to penetrate fortified structures and ground bunkers. It could prove useful in operations in mountainous terrain. The second version, Gaurav-PF, will be used to inflict multiple damage on open targets, troop deployments, or strategic targets.

Gaurav: India’s Indigenous Weapon

The Indian Air Force’s Su-30MKI is already equipped with a number of advanced weapons. It is already equipped with the Rudram missile, SAAW weapon system, and BrahMos-A, and the addition of the Gaurav makes the aircraft even more capable of long-range ground attack. This addition gives the Air Force a capability for modern warfare that is valued by even the world’s major armies.

Dependence on foreign companies for fighter jet engines has long been a major challenge for India. This is why projects for indigenous fighter aircraft like the Tejas Mk2 and AMCA have been delayed. Now, both the government and DRDO are jointly focusing on developing engines and weapon systems indigenously. Bombs, missiles, radars, air defense systems, electronic warfare technology—all these areas are undergoing rapid progress so that India can become completely self-reliant in the coming years.
