New Delhi: India recorded 6,531 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 98.40 per cent accounted for 7,141 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,42,37,495. The daily positivity rate stood at 0.87% less than 2% for last 84 days.
The number of active cases stood at 75,841 accounting for 0.22 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline by 925 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.38 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 315 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,79,997.
Delhi has recorded the most cases of Omicron in the country (142), followed by Maharashtra (141), Kerala (57), Gujarat (49) and 43 (Rajasthan), the Health Ministry said. Meanwhile, on Sunday Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh reported their first cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
Omicron cases have been rising drastically, prompting authorities to bring back curbs that had been eased after case counts dropped. Pictures of crowded markets in Delhi and unmasked Christmas celebrations in Kolkata have set alarm bells ringing and brought back grim memories of the second wave.
As per the statistics reported to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, so far 141.70 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country including 29.93 lakh doses given in the last 24 hours.
