Draft Guidelines Prepared Against Fake Vaccination Drive: BMC tells Bombay HC

Mumbai: The BMC on Thursday informed the Bombay HC that it has composed draft guidelines to prevent fake vaccination camps at private housing societies, offices, educational institutions and other premises.

The civic body has reckoned to appoint nodal officers who will monitor fake vaccination camps at such places, reported BMC Counsel senior Advocate Anil Sakhre to the HC on Thursday. Under the surveillance of these nodal officers, any malpractice will be reported to the local police and health authorities.

As per the draft guidelines, on receipt of a request for organizing such camps, the BMC will verify the registration of the concerned private COVID-19 vaccination Centre (PCVC) on the CoWIN portal before the camps begin. 

During the previous hearing held last week, the HC bench chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice G S Kulkarni that was hearing public interest litigation (PIL) filed by lawyer Siddharth Chandrashekhar, sought to know from the BMC what steps the civic body proposed to take to verify what had been administered to the 2,053 people, under the fake vaccination camps. 

An FIR was filed on Thursday at MIDC Andheri police station against eight persons for holding fake COVID-19 vaccination camps for private firms. This is the 10th FIR registered in the municipal after a racket, which held an unlicensed vaccination camp for housing societies and private firms.
