In a major bribery case, the CBI has arrested two individuals. They include a senior vice president of a major corporate group and a deputy director general posted in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation’s (DGCA) Airworthiness Directorate. According to the CBI, the case involves the alleged acceptance of a bribe of ₹2.5 lakh in exchange for granting permission and easing the process for drone imports for a private company.

According to officials, Bharat Mathur, who is associated with an aerospace company, and Mudavath Devula, Deputy Director General of the Airworthiness Directorate at DGCA headquarters, were arrested in Saturday’s operation. According to the investigating agency, the arrests were made in a drone import case where bribes were allegedly being taken in exchange for facilitating a private company. Following the arrest of the two, the CBI has initiated a further investigation and is delving into the entire network.

What is the whole matter?

According to a CBI spokesperson, the accused DGCA official demanded an undue advantage (bribe) in exchange for approving pending applications and issuing related orders for a private aerospace company. The investigation revealed that the alleged bribe was sought to facilitate and expedite the drone import process. Based on this, the CBI took action, arrested the accused, and registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
