New Delhi: The Delhiites on Wednesday once again woke up to dense fog and a freezing day that hit flight and rail operations, leaving thousands of passengers waiting for hours at the airport and railway station. Meanwhile, the Delhi airport today reported delays in flight operations, affecting around 120 flights, (both domestic and international arrivals and departures), due to dense fog.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a dense layer of fog has engulfed parts of the national capital, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, East Rajasthan, Bihar, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. It has also issued a red alert in Punjab and Haryana for very dense fog and cold wave conditions on Wednesday and an orange alert in both states on Thursday.

The foggy conditions also reduced the visibility in the region, which resulted in the delay and cancellation of flight operations from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).

According to the Jaipur weather centre, the minimum temperature in the last 24 hours was recorded at 2.9 degrees Celsius in Fatehpur and Karauli and 3 degrees Celsius in Sangriya.

Sriganganagar recorded a low of 4.3 degrees Celsius, followed by 4.5 degrees Celsius in Alwar, 5 degrees Celsius in Sikar, 5.1 degrees Celsius in Pilani and 5.4 degrees Celsius in Churu.

The meteorological department official said the weather remained dry in Rajasthan and there was dense fog in some places.

Coldwave conditions were recorded at many places while an extreme cold day was recorded in Sriganganagar.
