Delhi Police has imposed Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code in North-East Delhi and at the Delhi-UP borders, including Shahadara and Gandhi Nagar areas, ahead of the farmers’ march scheduled for February 13. The decision aims to prevent any potential disturbances and ensure law and order. This move comes in anticipation of the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march organized by around 200 farmers’ unions, advocating for various demands such as a separate law guaranteeing Minimum Support Price (MSP) for agricultural produce and the withdrawal of cases filed against protesters during previous demonstrations.
In a statement issued by the Delhi Police on Sunday, it was mentioned that some farmer organizations have called upon their supporters to gather and march towards Delhi on February 13 to voice their demands. The authorities anticipate that the protesters might camp at the Delhi borders until their demands are met, prompting the imposition of Section 144 as a precautionary measure to maintain public safety and order.
The order prohibits public gatherings in areas along the UP border and within the North-East district of Delhi Police. It also restricts the entry of vehicles such as tractors, trolleys, buses, trucks, and personal vehicles carrying protestors from Uttar Pradesh into Delhi. Additionally, the order prohibits the possession of arms, including firearms, swords, spears, and rods, by any person or protester. Violation of these directives may lead to punishment under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.
Furthermore, elaborate arrangements are being made to seal the Punjab-Haryana borders in Ambala, Jind, and Fatehabad districts ahead of the planned of the march. These measures underscore the authorities’ efforts to maintain peace and security amidst the anticipated mass mobilization of farmers towards the national capital.
Overall, the imposition of prohibitory orders and heightened security measures reflect the authorities’ proactive approach to handle the upcoming farmers’ protest and ensure the safety of citizens and public property.
