New Delhi: Overnight rains in the national capital turned the rain deficit city to surplass this month on Friday morning. The Met dept claimed the heavy rain were due to the interaction of a Western Disturbance and a low-pressure system.
It received 72 mm of rainfall in 24 hours ending 8:30 am on Friday, making it the first spell of heavy rain this month. From September 1 to September 23, the city received 130.5 mm of rain. Normally, Delhi records 125.5 mm of rainfall in September.
The India Meteorological Department issued a ‘yellow alert’, cautioning people about moderate rain at most places in the national capital. The weather forecast of more rain in next two days resulted in shutting of schools in Noida and Greater Noida for Classes I to VIII.
Meanwhile, the streets were flooded in Gurgaon and several parts of NH-48 were waterlogged. According to IE, Gurgaon administration had also issued an advisory asking corporate offices and private institutions to give the employees work from home on Friday so that there is no traffic congestion.
Visuals of flooded streets made it to the social media. Waterlogged colonies showed vehicles floating, vehicles gushing through the water on roads were scenes the national capital recorded on Friday morning.
