New Delhi: Six members including BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay have been detained by Delhi Police on Tuesday over anti-Muslim slogans raised at Jantar Mantar on Sunday.
According to the sources, the BJP leader is speculated to be the organizer of the protest and was questioned until late night on Monday along with Vinod Sharma, Deepak Singh, Vinit Kranti, Preet Singh and Deepak.
On August 9, an FIR was registered that complained of an unknown group raising inflammatory and inciting slogans at the Jantar Mantar on Sunday.
Despite restrictions to hold protest by the DCP of Delhi, Deepak Yadav, the crowd did gather on Sunday near Jantar Mantar and elicited anti-Muslim sloganeering. DCP said that “People who had gathered at Jantar Mantar had no permission. It has come to our due notice that some people raised inciting and objectionable slogans as well. We have also received a video and have registered FIR in the case.”
The Delhi police are reportedly trying to ascertain the authenticity of the video. Ashwini Upadhyay on Monday had tweeted the video of the protest based on which the FIR was lodged against the BJP leader.
