New Delhi: Alt News Co-Founder Mohammad Zubair who was remanded to four days of police custody on June 28 challenged the remand granted by trial court.
Justice Sanjeev Narula on Friday issued notice to Delhi Police to file a reply in two weeks. The next hearing has been listed on July 27. The Judge laid down his observation that, “The petition raises a legal question on the remand granted by the lower, the matter will be heard. I am inclined to issue notice on the petition”.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who represented Delhi Police in the court urged that the hearing of this matter at the lower court should not be prejudiced. Advocate Vrinda Grover who appeared on behalf of Zubair argued that the custody to her client has been granted in a mechanical manner and without any judicial scrutiny. She further added that the case in discussion relates to a tweet posted in 2018 and the sections in which this case has been lodged allowed for a maximum punishment of three years. Meanwhile, Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operation (IFSO) is of the opinion that they require the mobile and the laptop for investigating this case suggesting that the tweets are stored on Twitter server, not on the mobile.
