New Delhi: News co-founder Mohammed Zubair will be produced before the Patiala Court in Delhi today in a case for allegedly hurting religious sentiments, through a social media post. Zubair was brought out of the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of the Delhi Police Special Cell in Dwarka earlier today.
Meanwhile, the Delhi police added fresh charges against the journalist. Zubair is charged with criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence has been added to the case against the fact-checker along with Section 35 of the FCRA or Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act.
“Criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence charges added to the FIR along with Section 35 of the FCRA,” the Delhi Police said after producing Mohammed Zubair at the Patiala House court. Saying this the Delhi Police sought 14 days of judicial custody for Zubair.
On Thursday, Delhi High Court asked Delhi Police why Zubair was given four-day police custody. Zubair had challenged his police remand yesterday in a case linked to an alleged derogatory tweet that he had posted in 2018 against a Hindu community. He was taken to Bangalore from Delhi to his residence. Police had recovered his phone through which he had posted an alleged offensive tweet. The High Court said that his custody is illegal. #mohammedzubair #zubair #zubairhighcourt
