India: Delhi court on Saturday granted bail to businessman Navneet Kalra in a case related to the seizure of oxygen concentrators from his colossal restaurant chain, including Khan Chacha in Delhi.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Arun Kumar Garg has directed the accused not to contact the customers to whom he had sold the concentrators, not to tamper with evidence or influence the witnesses, and join the investigation as and when called by the police. Additionally, he was subjected to furnish a personal bond of two sureties of Rs 1lakh each.
Kalra, accused of illegal possession of 524 oxygen concentrators, was booked for black-marketing the critical medical device. He was nabbed from Gurugram on May 16 and formally arrested the next day.
During the bail plea, the public prosecutor claimed the accused committed a white-collar crime and made profit by selling medical devices at an exorbitant price to those on death beds. “He’s dealing with medical devices. He’s an optician.. they have never taken permission. It was in a Khan Chacha restaurant. You have not taken any precautions. You have no quality control management. .Cheating on normal days is cheating. In these circumstances, the gravity has increased.. their intention was to cheat and make a profit,” Shrivastava, the Additional Public Prosecutor said.
Kalra, the owner of Delhi’s popular Khan Chacha restaurant, was arrested on May 16, nearly a week after 524 concentrators were seized from his chain of restaurants.
The police claimed that the concentrators were imported from China and were being sold at an exorbitant price of Rs 50,000 to 70,000 a piece as against its cost of Rs 16,000 to Rs 22,000.
