NEW DELHI: A day after the 17-year-old girl was subjected to an acid attack in New Delhi, the Delhi police and Delhi Commission for Women sent a notice to the e-commerce platform Flipkart from the accused had purchased the acid. The notice demands an explanation from the e-commerce platform as to why acids are being sold online. E-commerce giant Amazon has also been sent a similar notice by DCW. Calling the easy availability of such dangerous materials on the platform, the DCW has called for a report from the two firms by December 20th.
Two bike-born men threw acid on a 17-year-old on Wednesday in Delhi’s Dwarka. The Delhi police have arrested three accused in the case so far and found the main accused purchased the acid through Flipkart. The girl who was immediately shifted to Safdarjung Hospital has suffered 8 percent chemical burns on the face including her eyes and is undergoing treatment. “Ophthalmologists are also providing conservative and supportive treatment. She continues to be in the Burn ICU,” a senior doctor said
The accused have been identified as Sachin Arora and his two friends Harshit Aggarwal (19) and Virender Singh (22). The attack is believed to be an act of vengeance since one of the accused was of the girl and the two had a falling out recently.
